Diamond Ring, Men's Midcentury Classic 1.22 Carats
About the Item
This midcentury men's diamond ring represents the quintessential design aesthetic for a man's diamond solitaire, circa 1960s. How many Walter Cronkite broadcasts have flashed across the facets of this iconic gem?
Hand built from sturdy 14 yellow gold, this ring features a brilliant cut eye-clean (SI1/VS2), white (F/G/H) diamond that weighs approximately 1.22 carats, as measured in the setting. There are four additional small diamonds at each of the compass points, set underneath the central diamond -this diamond setting was patented as the "Wonder Top" back in the day. The four diamonds add additional fire to what is already an exceptionally vivid, fire-filled stone. All of these diamonds are set into white gold. The shoulders of the ring feature an engraved arrow, each set with a brilliant white diamond. Bringing the total diamond weight to 1.50 carats.
Weighing a substantial 11 grams, this is a very well-made ring. Quite comfortable to wear. And I've my jeweler make absolutely certain that each diamond is securely set in place.
Flashy but also understated? Seems like an irreconcilable contradiction and yet here we have exactly such a ring. An icon of "gent's" jewelry, I suspect you will love this ring as much as I do.

Diamond Stanhope Ring in Aluminum
Located in Southbury, CT
A rare aluminum and diamind stanhope ring.
A "Stanhope lens" is a tiny single-lens microscope invented in the late 18th century by Eton-educated Charles Stanhope, the 3rd Earl Stanhope. The unique construction of the lens requires that the object to be magnified be near or in direct contact with the lens. Photography, which had been invented several decades prior to the Stanhope lens, was ever-evolving, and something called "microphotographs" became a thing in the mid-1800s. These tiny photographs could not be seen without a microscope. The Victorians, dressed as they were in multiple layers of social decorum, etiquette, and clothing, loved microphotographs because they were cunning, and the subject matter could be naughty —filthy naughty, even— yet remain invisible to anyone without a microscope. The Stanhope lens came along at just the right time and was eagerly adopted; incorporated into everything from crucifixes to sewing scissors. And, of course, set into rings.
